the "snow"

We desperately searched for some winter/Christmas activities to make it feel more like Christmas time. We found that there was a town where they make it "snow" on the hour a couples times every night. So, one weekend we went to check it out. I don't know what I was expecting the snow to be made of (I thought it was going to be flaky i guess), but it was pretty much like taking a bath with tons of soap and no water! Elijah was really excited to check it out, until he got in and realized he couldn't wipe the snow off! Silas was skeptical the whole time and wouldn't even venture in to check it out! It was really fun watching it fall down and pretending it was snow, just not the best to play in.... here are some pictures of the "snow"

Waiting for fall...

We are continuing to settle in here at the home office. We have found a wonderful church to serve at and have just started to get involved in their children's ministry. I am doing puppets :) and helping with a class and it looks like David may be teaching one of the classes! We are so excited to be involved in children's ministry together again and look forward to meeting more people through this ministry! The boys are also really enjoying their classes, which is WONDERFUL!
David is enjoying the finance office. It looks like it will be a busy week, next week with several people being out of the office. In addition, one co-worker is stepping out of the office, and another has had some major health issues and won't be back in for a while. So David is getting plenty opportunities to learn the various jobs.
We continue to keep our eyes open for a good home in the area for our family. PLEASE PRAY that we would have wisdom to choose a good time and location for the move. Also that our support level would get to a place where this would be doable!
The boys and I have been very much enjoying life at home. We are waiting for some fall weather to come in, but it is nice to have a few cooler days here and there to explore the outdoors. Here are a few pictures of our sweet little guys....

The sun is parked next to the palm tree

WERE HERE!! After five years of training and getting ready we are finally settling into our roles in New Tribes Mission. We are serving at the New Tribes Mission home office in Sanford, Florida. David is working in the finance office, where they handle all the financial aspects of all the US missionaries. It is so neat to be apart of and see all that needs to go on here, so that our overseas co-workers can share God's story with tribes all over the world!

"The sun is parked next to the palm tree" is something Elijah said one of the first days we were here. The office building (which is also where our apartment is) is in a beautiful location. We are enjoying exploring the area. The boys are liking their new home, thankfully they adjust well to moving around from place to place. Thanks for your prayers and support in getting us here! We could not do this without you and we are so thankful for the opportunity to be apart of this great work God is doing! ALSO, let us know if you are ever in the area. We would love to give you a tour and show you all that goes on here!

Big Weekend

This past weekend was a busy one for us. On Saturday we had a birthday party for the boys! It is so hard to believe they are already nearly 1 and 3! Our home/sending church commissioned us on Sunday, and then on Monday we pulled out and started the trip to Florida! This is what these past 5 years have been all in preparation for. Can't believe we are finally to this day. We are definitely excited to get settled in and begin this new stage!

Enjoying his birthday treat

Almost 3!

Moving time...

Well it's that time of year again where we pack up all our stuff and move to the next one. We are excited to say (if you haven't heard by now) that we are heading down to Florida this summer to serve at New Tribes Mission's home office. David will be working in the finance office. He will be taught how to do all the jobs in that office with the goal of becoming the assistant finance office manager. What a joy to have a part in reaching those who have never heard of Christ. We are so thankful to be able to fill in one of the many jobs it takes to be a part of God's work in tribal missions!! We can't wait to start!

Our summer so far

There has been a lot going on in the past few months, here are some pictures to keep you up to date!On May 27th we celebrated FOUR years of marriage and graduated from our fourth and final year of training with New Tribes Mission! We cannot believe how fast these past four years have gone, but we have thoroughly enjoyed all of them.

We have now moved back to Pennsylvania to spend at least a year getting plugged in at our home/sending church. We are really enjoying it so far! We have been able to get into a small group and take part in VBS this summer. We are looking forward to things picking up there once the school year starts back up.We also got a new family member!! Silas Caleb joined our family on July 1st at 3:14 in the afternoon. He was 8lbs 50z and 20 inches! We are so glad that he is here and Elijah is definitely enjoying being a big brother!!

And just a few pics of us enjoying summer and our family of four

Valentine's Date Night

After bringing Elijah along to last year's valentines date, we were pretty determined that we would find a baby sitter this time around. However, as the time got close and we hadn't found one yet we ended up just bringing him along again. He did great... once the food came anyways!

He ate a lot of bread

He thought it was fun to lean in and smile!

Check out those cute curls

BABY NEWS!

As most of you have probably heard by now, we are having another baby!! The due date is June 21st, which just so happens to be 5 days before Elijah turns 2. So, it could end up to be quite a busy week for us. Over Christmas we had an ultrasound and found out that we will be having 2 little boys running around this place. We are all very excited with this news!
Please be praying that all goes well with the pregnancy/delivery also that everything with doctors and such would come together as we should be in Pennsylvania for the birth, but will be in Canada until just under a month before.
Here are a few pics of the little guys...

Semester so far

We are now well into our 2nd year of training here in Canada. We are finding these classes quite overwhelming compared to last years where we mostly sat at our desks taking in lectures on various topics of Tribal Church Planting and the Christian life. This year is more hands on. The purpose for these classes is to learn HOW to learn someones language and culture.
We started off with Sounds and Symbols...
This is our teacher and to the right of his head is a chart of the International Phonetics Alphabet. We spent a few weeks going over these sounds (most of which we had never heard before). It was a really fun class. It was so neat to learn about the differences between our language and the languages in the world and how we have to train our mouths to be able to speak eachothers languages. However, after all that David and I are still unable to roll our R's.
We recently finished up Grammer class. During that time we learned how different languages are structured. Next we'll be doing what's called live language. David and I are paired up with a family who has been working in Indonesia for the past few years. For the rest of the semester we will be able to try to put into practice the techniques we have been learning as we try to learn some basic language of the tribal group that this family has worked in. We are super excited!

Now onto our family.....

Elijah is walking!!!!! We are finding that we just love the point he is at now! It has been so fun to see him learn new words and just do all sorts of funny things. We love this kid.

Wrap up on Jungle Camp

Here are some random pictures from our time in Jungle...

I (Rachel) got to go on a 2 day ladies hike during the last week of Jungle Camp.

Some tasty sandwich buns. It was raining outside that day so we had to hang the laundry inside.

David did a lot of wood cutting for our stove

Doing "laundry"

Wood cutting competitions on Canada Day

We had open house one weekend. This was when people from the community and families are invited to come and check out Jungle Camp. We were so excited that both of our families were able to come visit us!

Well I think that just about does it for my Jungle Camp posts! Thanks so much for your interest and encouragement for us during this time. It was definately a fun and unique time in our lives. We were sad to see it end, but aren't at all struggling to adjust back to normal life!
