Jungle Camp Prep

Some things you might be wondering:
WHAT IS JUNGLE CAMP
Jungle Camp is a time where we will spend a month living in the "Bush" (woods on campus) in a house we built out of plastic and cedar poles, all held together with duct tape.  We have been preparing a room with everything we need for that month as we won't be able to leave!
WHY DO WE HAVE JUNGLE CAMP
Our whole class is training to be involved with New Tribes Mission, some will likely end up in remote tribal locations. Most of us will be in places without all of our modern day conviniences. Jungle camp is very practical training. It will teach us how to prepare for long amounts of time without opportunity to get groceries. It will give us an idea of what it's like to live in isolation from the world with the same group of people everyday. It will teach us team work as we will need eachother help with certain things such as building our houses. We are very much looking forward to this time, but also very overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done before we are finally living out there

Jungle Camp building begins on Monday, and I will try my best to update you each day with pictures of our progress! Here's what we've got so far:

This was once our spare room. It is now where we pile everything we will need for Jungle Camp

David has been working hard on our oven, so that we can hopefully have some hot water for our sink and shower!
And here is a picture of our cutie just for funIf you have any questions about all of this, let us know! We would love to hear from you!

May Highlights

May is a big and fun month for us. Lots of special dates such as my birthday, mother's day, and our 3rd anniversary. It has also been quite busy here on campus. We just finished up classes and are now starting to prepare for Jungle Camp. There is so much to do in the coming weeks!
Our final class was tech tips where we learn basic electrical skills. Above is a picture of me putting a light together. Below we were learning about solar panels, which we will be using in Jungle camp for our electricity! The class was very hands on and lots of fun!

The weather, when its not raining, has been finally warming up. Here Elijah is getting to enjoy the outdoors. He kept trying to eat the dandelions!

On May 27th we celebrated our 3RD ANNIVERSARY! We were unable to get a babysitter for the evening, so below is our extra date for the evening. At least he dressed up for us!

Canned Meat... yum yum

Since we will be living in "the jungle" for 4 weeks, unable to get fresh meat, we had to can meat if we wanted any meat for meals during our time there.  So, a while back we had a class on how to can meat (thank goodness because I didn't even know that this was something people did) and in the past month we canned 2 loads of meat and thankfully are done! Thought you might enjoy a few pictures from the process...

The meat is cooked a ready to go into the can!

The finished product... don't you wish you could join us for a meal in jungle camp?
