Semester so far

We are now well into our 2nd year of training here in Canada. We are finding these classes quite overwhelming compared to last years where we mostly sat at our desks taking in lectures on various topics of Tribal Church Planting and the Christian life. This year is more hands on. The purpose for these classes is to learn HOW to learn someones language and culture.
We started off with Sounds and Symbols...
This is our teacher and to the right of his head is a chart of the International Phonetics Alphabet. We spent a few weeks going over these sounds (most of which we had never heard before). It was a really fun class. It was so neat to learn about the differences between our language and the languages in the world and how we have to train our mouths to be able to speak eachothers languages. However, after all that David and I are still unable to roll our R's.
We recently finished up Grammer class. During that time we learned how different languages are structured. Next we'll be doing what's called live language. David and I are paired up with a family who has been working in Indonesia for the past few years. For the rest of the semester we will be able to try to put into practice the techniques we have been learning as we try to learn some basic language of the tribal group that this family has worked in. We are super excited!

Now onto our family.....

Elijah is walking!!!!! We are finding that we just love the point he is at now! It has been so fun to see him learn new words and just do all sorts of funny things. We love this kid.
